What Customers Say About Hot Buttered Soul:

Motown was sugar. Taken beyond the three minute soul singles Hayes helped invent, soul could be wide open spaces, filled with endless sounds and textures: Listen to the phased guitar on "Walk On By," the way it bulids--slowly--into an orchestral epic. There is an amazing contradiction to Issac Hayes: He wrote for Rufus Thomas, Carla Thomas, Sam and Dave, basically, anyone on Stax in the 1960s. It is almost as if Hayes set out to do the antithisis of his behind the scenes work at Stax. The reason does not matter. Maybe the progressivism of Earth Wind and Fire does) Soul seemed to get softer and funk definately got louder. Stax was salt. But Hot Buttered Soul is Hayes going in the completely oppisite direction. These four tracks, "Walk On By," "Hyberbolc." "One Women" and "By The Time I Get To Phenoix" open soul up in new ways.

"By The Time I Get To Pheonix" is soul as cinima. No one really picked up on the mandate Hayes set on this album. These singles are the example of stripped, driving, Southern soul. "Hyberbolic." has a bending guitar riff that makes you question who inventived Hardcore Funk jolies--George Clinton or Hayes. These four tracks are soul, but if soul could be progressive rock, this album would be such. This masterpiece does. (Ok. As art rock, soul possibilites were never really explored. But this album is pure invention, and reminds us all, again, when you think outside musical boxes, virtually anything is possible.

Maybe when you are reborn (and turn 21) we can hang out, toss back some Pangalactic Gargleblasters with Zaphod Beeblebrox, and watch Battlefield Earth on Blu-ray. May your immortal thetan vigilantly await rebirth, my gurk'lok. L. But I digress.A-hem.

So it is with this final holographic galacto-net transmission that I mournfully send him off. Hayes' funeral service on August 18, 2008)"Singer, voice actor and stalwart follower of Scientology, Isaac Hayes, has unfortunately passed away. It would be a shame if you weren't Clear of all those nasty engrams and body thetans before you took flight.Give my regards to Xenu, Mr. And it's not like I can just meet him on Burgagulos Prime to get my money back.

I would be dead from old age by the time I dropped out of quasi-hyperspace into the Burgagulos System. I do hope you were thoroughly audited before you blasted off to space in your spirit-shuttle. Hayes. He is 'okay' for an evil alien dictator.but he needs to give me my cash back. (Originally delivered at Mr.

The only ship I have is an ArgoTech® GL-55C Ultra Rocket-Sedan with Ionized Quasi-Hyperspace Magnothrusters. It would take me an entire millennio'grop to get to the Galactic Confederacy core planets. You know what. Just tell Xenu I would be fine with a wireless supergalaxo megatransfer to my bank account here on Teegeeack. Foolish procrastinating Galactic Confederacy overlords. Alas, poor Isaac, you have left our humble world of Teegeeack (or 'Earth', as the humans call it). Godspeed, 'Isaac Hayes' (or 'Bleepgoo Razzlefrazz' as you were known on the moon of Yazmo XII).

The guy owes me fifty murgliocks from a past life. I should vaporize him for his insolence. He'd better pay up soon because the murgliock-to-dollar exchange rate is going to hell in a handbasket. You were truly a bad mutha-.shut yo mouth. Ron would be proud, my dear gurk'lok."-Tohn Jravolta, General of the "Loyal Officers" on Ragtalon IV

I especially like track 2, its funky to death. Hot Buttered Soul is pretty much a perfect album. It's got soul, it brings the funk, it is arranged with strings, guitar, organ etc beautifully, it's provided sample sources for such great artists such as Public Enemy and Wu-Tang, and that VOICE - what a voice. Hayes is really able to make the two covers (Walk On By & By The Time I Get To Phoenix) his own while showing he can bring his own two songs (Hyperbolicnahasapeterwhatever & One Woman) with the same feel and standard. R.I.P. And to think this album may have never been.

You have to give this album a go, infact give it multiple goes. What else could someone want. It may sound corny but I believe Hayes lisetning to this album, I feel he really believes and feels how this album sounds, and not many albums can do this to me to the same level, especially considering the state of modern R&B / soul artists. Apparently after Otis Redding's death Atlantic pulled all funds out of Stax records and the head of Stax got the whip out and demanded like 25-30 records from the Stax crew in 6 months or something. However the story goes. The thing I especially like about this album is there are only 4 tracks and they really extend over the 3.30 radio-play type song. It'll get under your skin.

Isaac Hayes

If you don't like this, you just don't "get it". This album, as with other work by Isaac Hayes, is the epitome of soul music; music that makes you just kinda bob your head and feel it as you're listening to it. The only negative is that it serves as a reminder of what music has devolved into in this day and age. Soul music has experienced a slight resurgence through the efforts of artists like Maxwell, Angie Stone, Jill Scott, John Legend and Erykah Badu, but nobody does it like the old cats did.

Long songs. Excellent CD by Isaac Hayes. This is maybe one of the best records of soul music from the 70's. A very good drummer and of course a good voice, nice chorus and good keyboards. Impressive.
